Morris County · North Jersey
Weekly and every-other-week dog waste removal for Chatham Borough and Chatham Township, from the streets around Main Street to the Great Swamp side of town.

Your Chatham pooper scooper
Chatham is really two towns that share a ZIP code: Chatham Borough, with downtown and the train station, and Chatham Township, which wraps around it to the west and south toward the Great Swamp. Big Business Scoopers covers both, as part of the Morris County routes that already run through neighboring Madison and Florham Park and over the line into Summit and New Providence.
On your route day, your scooper texts on the way, walks the whole yard, double-bags the waste into your trash can and latches the gate behind them. Whether you're on a quarter-acre lot off Fairmount Avenue or a bigger property along Southern Boulevard, it's one flat monthly rate, and you never have to be home.
We know this corner of Morris County. Our Madison routes run right up to the Chatham line along Kings Road, and we've met plenty of local dog families at pop-ups at Well Bred in Madison, the same local pet market with a Chatham shop at Hickory Plaza.
Out and about
Parks, trails and dog runs in and around town, from the town's and county's own pages.

Chatham Township
Leashed dogs are welcome on a leash no longer than 6 feet, but not in active play areas, playground equipment areas, athletic fields or recreation buildings.

270 Mendham Road, Morris Township
A 0.4-acre off-leash dog park in the park's Old Army Area, with room for big and small dogs. Open daily, sunrise to sunset.
Pleasant Plains Road, Basking Ridge
Very limited for dogs: pets may walk only along Pleasant Plains Road and in the parking areas, on a leash of 10 feet or less. No pets on the trails or boardwalks.
Good neighbors
Chatham Borough requires pet owners to immediately and properly dispose of their pet's waste on any property, public or private, that they don't own (Code §79-11). Violations fall under the general penalty of up to $2,000.
In Chatham Township, waste must be removed immediately and disposed of in a sanitary manner (Code §5-2.2(f)), with fines of $25 to $500 per offense.
In both towns, dogs in public must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet, except inside the Borough's off-leash area at Shepard Kollock Park.
Both charge $21 for a spayed or neutered dog and $24 otherwise, with licenses expiring January 31 and renewals online.
Chatham sits at the top of the Passaic River, which the Lenape called Fishawack, and inside the Great Swamp watershed: nearly 35,000 acres whose brooks, Loantaka Brook and Black Brook among them, feed the river's headwaters. Waste left on a lawn here doesn't stay on the lawn. The next storm carries it toward those brooks, so a weekly scoop is one of the simplest things a Chatham yard can do for the swamp and the river.

A little local history
John Day settles at the Fishawack crossing of the Passaic River (Fishawack was the Lenape name for the river), and the village becomes known as John Day's Bridge.
The village is renamed Chatham, for William Pitt, Earl of Chatham, a British supporter of the colonists.
George Washington has bread ovens built in Chatham as a ruse, to suggest his army will stay and attack New York, while the troops slip away toward Yorktown. A kiosk in Shepard Kollock Park tells the story.
Chatham Township is incorporated. The village secedes in 1892 and becomes Chatham Borough in 1897.
After residents defeat a Port Authority plan for a jetport in the Great Swamp, raising more than a million dollars to buy the land, the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge is established.
A Chamber of Commerce sidewalk sale grows into the Fishawack Festival, still Chatham's early-summer street party.

No. As long as we have safe access to your yard, you don't need to be home while we clean up.
We work through most weather, including light rain. If severe weather, snow, flooding or lightning makes it unsafe, your visit may be skipped. Because the next cleanup usually takes much longer, your regular rate still applies. If you clean the yard yourself before we're back, let us know and we'll gladly credit that visit.
We securely double-bag it and place it in your trash can, so it leaves with your regular garbage pickup.
